Spring is just around the corner and this is the perfect time to make sure our favorite furry friend is ready for the warm weather that will soon be upon us.

Here are a few tips to ensure your pet will be ready!

1- Make sure they are up to date on their Heartworm prevention.

One of the single biggest dangers to animals is heartworms, which are spread through mosquito
bites. We all know that spring and summer brings mosquitos, so now is the time to get your
pets back on medication if you had taken them off during the winter months.

2- Watch out for seasonal allergies!

Like people, pets suffer from seasonal allergies. Unlike people ,animals allergies tend to show up as skin issues instead of respiratory. Signs to watch out for are excessive itching, red and irritated skin, excessive licking, hair loss, and hot spots. Although there is no way to prevent allergies in your pet the symptoms can be treated with an antihistamine.

3- Lose that extra weight!

I think we can all sympathize with our animal if he or she has put on a few extra pounds during the winter months. But with the warm weather approaching, now is the time to get them out and about. One thing we are not lacking in the DFW area is great parks and walking trails! Don’t forget to start them off slowly as to not cause any injuries.

4- Time to get their groom on!

Everyone feels better when they have had a little pampering, so now is the time to make an appointment to have a bath and haircut, ears cleaned, and nails trimmed!

5- Making your yard safe for your pet.

One of the best things you can do for your pet is to make sure you have a safe and secure outdoor area for them. If your yard is fenced in, now is the time to check over the structure and make sure it is still secure. Also look for any areas where your pet may be able to get under the fence. Regular mowing can help keep away ticks as they like to cling to the tall grass.

6- Book your summer pet sitting needs!
